Dallas Trannies Demand No More Use of the Word ‘Tranny’

Of course, because many embrace the word, the demand is a little more nuanced.  As the blog PlanetTransgender puts it, “Unless we are a entertainer with published articles which we identify ourselves individually as a ‘Drag Queen or Tranny’ please do not call us by these names.”

The blog goes on to compare the word to racial and ethnic epithets like “kike” and “wetback,” saying of users of “the T word” that “others will capitalize on their insensitivity resulting in the marginalization, Victimization and violent murders of Transgender people.”

We at the Sword recognize the complexities of this linguistic issue but we also like the word tranny–as much as we like the word faggot–and we know too many faggots and drag queens who’ve embraced both of these words.  The Dallas Voice blog also points to Christian Siriano, via Amy Poehler, for turning tranny into a catchphrase.  Sure, words can be used as epithets, but are we going to try to sanitize all of our own speech to the point that the historically edgy lesbigaytranny community starts to sound like a liberal arts college?  Anyone is free to disagree with us, and we don’t live in Dallas, so, yeah.

Below is a video made by some trans ladies about the subject, featuring that Sia song Erik Rhodes likes so much.

I’m not sure exactly why but this website is loading extremely
slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end?

I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
