Uhh, that would be a ‘no.’
The Sword spoke with Wilde this morning, who made his feelings for Koering quite clear.
“The Senator won’t be getting another date from me, nor will he be getting my vote. I’m in Minnesota to surprise my 10-year-old brother for his birthday, not to vote for Paul,” Wilde told The Sword.
Koering and Wilde’s dinner date in Brainerd last June, revealed exclusively by The Sword, captured national headlines and put Koering’s political career in jeopardy. But perhaps more surprising than the fact that an openly gay Republican lawmaker took a porn star out to dinner was Koering’s nonchalant reaction when The Sword interviewed him shortly before publishing the report. “I don’t see anything wrong with going out with [Wilde],” Koering casually admitted. He went on, “I don’t see what the story is here.”
Now, Koering’s fighting for his political life. He faces a Republican challenger (whom the state GOP has endorsed over Koering) in a primary election next Tuesday.
During their date, Wilde contends that Koering told him he would fight to make gay marriage legal in the state of Minnesota, which Koering later denied. Koering has in fact stated publicly that he doesn’t support gay marriage, which is the basis of Wilde’s decision not to vote for him.
“We have a gay man in the senate, and he makes us all look weak by not fighting for what is right,” Wilde said.
The 20-year-old porn star sounded more reasonable and convincing than most political strategists, adding, “If he doesn’t wanna fight for his own rights–as a gay man–what makes a straight person think he cares about their rights? Point being, if you can’t fight for yourself, how can you be entrusted to fight for anyone?”
While Mr. Koering has every right to decide that he doesn’t want to get married, the fact that He can’t see beyond His own desires and thinks that others shouldn’t have equal rights is what makes Him and others like Him weak.
