we figured we’d give you a selection of the offerings, just in case you’re heading there, or (god forbid) you live there. (JK!)
Much like the Frameline fest in San Francisco that happened this past June, the French Canadians have selected many similarly porny offerings to sate the gays’ appetite for “art” that makes you feel cultured and like rubbing one out all at the same time. But, there are also a few other things that look semi-promising, and a pile of foreign coming-out stories that are sure to warm the heart. The highlights, below.
Chuecatown (Boystown) – Spain, 2008
We already showed you the trailer, but let us say that we remain fans of Almodovar-like homages to gays, their mothers and their tranny neighbors.
Gay… et apres? – France, 2007
This completely unfocused and possibly boring documentary bounces around the globe to tell a few different stories about, uh, gay DJs and dyke parties and struggles against consumerism? Nonetheless it features a couple of our favorite people: Cazwell, Amanda Lepore and inky porn wunderikind Logan McCree, a.k.a. Berlin’s DJ Kriegel. Watch a scene featuring little Logan speaking German here.
Another Gay Sequel – USA, 2008
HerzHaft – Germany, 2007
We’re not running off to join NAMBLA or anything, but we love a good Lolita story. And it’s only 15 mins long.
Otto, or Up with Dead People – Canada/Germany, 2008
Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon – USA, 2008
This documentary cuts to the chase: it’s about 70s porn idol Jack Wrangler, who was butch when the phrase still applied to people other than lesbians. See the trailer here.
