Gay pop culture news from Hugh Jackman, Alan Cumming, Ben Platt and Kathy Bates.

Monday Minute: Surprise Emmy Wins, Gay Weddings, & Thirst Traps

Start the week with some of the hottest gay pop culture news and Hollywood headlines.

Alan Cumming Dethrones the Queen

TV folks celebrated the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards this weekend in LA. It was a big night for Qeer performers and some of our favorite divas. The big news is, after winning the award for eight years in a row, RuPaul lost Host for a Reality or Competition Program to Traitors host Alan Cumming. Congrats to the Queen of the North, Alan! Other notable wins from the night included songwriters Pasek and Paul achieved EGOT status; Jamie Lee Curtis won for her role as the crazy mom on The Bear; and Maya Rudolph won for her hilarious cartoon monster on Big Mouth. See the full winners list here.

Ben Platt and Noah Galvin Got Hitched

This week, Broadway and screen couple Ben Platt and Noah Galvin tied the knot in Brooklyn. The former best friends, who both starred in Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen, had a three-day wedding celebration throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. A bunch of their famous friends were in attendance, and Vogue has an exclusive look into the big gay nuptials.

Kathy Bates’ Swan Song

Oscar winner Kathy Bates returns to TV this fall on a reboot of the popular detective series Matlock. And apparently, this will be the last time we see her on screen. She told The New York Times that this role would be the 76-year-old star’s last. The acclaimed actress is best known for her roles in Misery, Titanic, Fried Green Tomatoes, and American Horror Story. The show premieres September 22 on CBS.

Hugh Jackman Is an Eternal DILF

Hugh Jackman just had a big Blockbuster summer with his return to the character of Wolverine. But is that enough for the Aussie hunk? No. He wants you all to know just how shredded Daddy is. The still Instagram video talks about Jackman’s fitness journey for Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Damn, Zaddy is looking fine. Though, come on, Hugh! Track pants? Not even a long thigh-length boxer brief? Do better.

  1. I’m so happy for Ben Platt and Noah Galvin! I get excited when I see gay weddings. And they start off well: marriage is also about friendship.

  2. Hugh Jackman is handsome, his character Wolverine is one of his best roles, it’s hard to imagine anyone in the role of Wolverine except him.

    1. I agree with it. About Mystique, I think Rebecca Romijn was the best. Jennifer Lawrence is good, but Romijn was spectacular.

        1. Quiz Lady is a Hulu original movie starring Awkwafina and Sandra Oh. It’s a comedy and pretty good. It’s definitely one of my favorites.
