Lady Gaga’s “Applause”

I know she’s a pretty polarizing figure (and I’m not exactly her biggest fan), but I think we can all agree that this is truly a work of art, right? It’s making me kinda dig the song more now, too.

Has The Lady finally done something right? Let us know in the comments below and vote in the poll!

  1. Not really “reductive” this time around – an okay pop song, not high art. Proof that many gay men will gravitate towards any painted bird in a wig. Lots of dancers. Raccoons are also attracted to shiny things.

  2. As a fan of Lady Gaga I was kind of disappointed with the choice of the 1st single. Applause is not up to Gaga’s standards, and seems more like a rushed effort. Let’s hope the 2nd single is vintage Gaga and sends you out to the dance floor this first single doesn’t do the job.

  3. The video is okay, but there are tons of better videos out there. The video was directed by Inez & Vinoodh, so I wonder how much of the video is her vision. Anyhow, the video cannot hide the fact that Lady Gaga’s music is insipid, conformist commercial shit.

  4. I really used to like her when she came out, especially because she was so supportive of gay rights. However, seeing that she does not care about animal rights at all (wearing fur and even being proud of it), I began to reconsider. The things that really bother me are: The desperate attention-seeking (it sometimes gets to the point where it really is nothing else but desperate), the blasphemic lines and images in songs and videos (I think it is disrespectful towards people who are religious), wearing fur (it shows she does not care for animals) and the gay rights support is so much sometimes that I begin to think whether this is just a merketing strategy (for example when she claimed that her “meat dress” was a symbol for gay rights – there really was no connection whatsoever, only in her mind).

  5. Yes it’s a good video, I still don’t like the song. I’m also sorely missing the clever snark this blog used to have.

    1. Well, the fags whined and complained about what a mean bully Zach was/is, so he’s just giving them what they want.

I don’t get the video. No rhyme or reason, just seems to be “arty” for “artiness” sake. Whatever works. Glad Gaga supports human rights.

  6. So is this supposed to be a highlight to transvestite porn? If you’re gonna talk about something mainstream, at least make it relevant to porn, like how Zach did with the Steve Grand’s post, and not this questionable hermaphrodiet.

OMG I’m starting to miss Zach’s unnecessary attacks of Steve Grand already…

  7. I gained newfound respect for the Gagster after she defacto ordered her minions to kill Perez Hilton… Then she apologized and told them NOT to kill him… Respect lost. The song makes me appreciate the awful Girl Gone Wild quite a bit more…

    1. I agree. I enjoy listening to Katy Perry and Sara Bareilles. I still listen to ‘Love Song’ and ‘California Girls’.

  8. I don’t care for Lady Gaga’s music, however, I have the hot’s for her boyfriend, Taylor Kinney. He’s an actor on NBC’s Chicago Fire.
