Controversial porn star Billy Santoro made headlines when a screenshot of a racist Facebook status update went viral yesterday.
“Lol. America! Lol you let your blacks loot as a way of protest. Wake the fuck up. Shoot first,” read the post.
The vile post caused immense backlash throughout the internet. Many members of the gay community and the porn community shamed Santoro for his harmful words. Billy’s husband, Gage Santoro, announced on Twitter today that he had ended his relationship with Billy over the post. Gage changed his Twitter name and “rebranded” as @justgagexxx. He said that Billy’s post was “absolutely disgusting” and that he is “not defending him one bit.”
“Racist views is why I ended my relationship today,” tweeted Gage. “I stand for all black lives. Please don’t attack me. I’m trying to fix this. Love Gage.”
A couple of hours after the breakup announcement, Gage revealed that Billy attempted suicide last night. Gage said the “hate” Billy had received had led him to the suicide attempt. He posted the update with three photos. Two pictures showed Gage and Billy laying down together in a dark hospital room. The other picture just showed Billy in a hospital bed with a tube attached to his arm.
“Last night the man that I love so dearly attempted suicide based on the hate he has received,” tweeted Gage. “I please ask you to stop. Stop what you are doing. He has apologised for this on every platform. Yet the attack continues. Stay safe and love each other. Send love pls.”

Many porn stars like Max Konnor and Hunter Williams took issue with the post. Konnor called it “a whole scheme” and said that “he was insensitive to our fight so I’m sure no one gives a flying fuck about his.” Another account accused the photos of being part of a photoshoot. The pointed out the sloppy taping and IV work done on Billy’s arm as a reason to why it wasn’t real. Many other famous Twitter personalities replied to Gage’s tweet showing no sympathy or implying the whole situation was faked.

We all fuck up. It’s the human condition. The key is to learn from one’s mistakes. Take some time to think and re-evaluate your life. Besides you have a hot bf and life is not always what others think of you. You will likely have to eat some crow but that’s the path to a better life. I’ve suffered on and off with clinical depression since at least age 10 – bad home life. At 16 being a masculine gay I attempted suicide thinking all gays were super fem (Liberace, Paul Lynde etc.) and there was nobody like me. I abused drugs and alcohol to feel better. I had to get clean and sober. I had to get over the self hate that I’m gay (Kinsey 5) and that life was hard, HIV took away most of my friends and my hunky handsome bf but in time my husband came into my life. Life can be hard, we take it personally, but we have to pick up the pieces and keep on keeping on with the hope tomorrow will be better. Usually it is.

It’s fine not to be a fan of Billy/Gage, however, to call for their videos to be taken down is foolish. People can have different opinions – good, bad & ugly. If you don’t like these guys, just don’t watch their content.

People are too quick to jump to conclusion. It’s a better world if we could just put down that damn phone and not look at the so called “platforms”. Everyone is pointing fingers and a lot of words are lost in translation, especially when no one can read, write or speak a clean coherent sentence anymore these days. People aren’t good at listening either. To a certain degree, he wasn’t wrong. People ARE robbing the shops and that’s a FACT. He could have said “people” instead of “blacks”, and whether to “shoot first” was appropriate is another matter. I am not defending anyone or taking sides. But looking at the fact is just as important as accusing people as whatever label you want to slab on. The demonstration did take a bad turn when it went out of control, it was a supportive event turned violent and things were destroyed or stolen. That wouldn’t matter which color your skin is, it is still a crime committed.

It is very very hard to have ANY empathy for Billy, especially when this looks faked. It just smacks of attention seeking – not only to his fans, but as a drastic attempt to win back his former partner. However, I do have a tiny smidgen of empathy because I’ve been suicidal several times in life and it’s just awful. I think Billy has larger problems at play to deal with and perhaps this week was the boil bursting on the fetid crap that has festered in his personality for so long. From what I know, he really needs some treatment for his drug/alcohol use and psychological issues. This does not in any way negate the awful posts he’s put out. While I’m annoyed that he’s leeching off the Australian public purse, we have universal health care for a reason, and I hope this is a catalyst for change in his life, that moves him away from porn and into becoming a better person.
