Exclusive: Jonny McGovern Talks His New Porn Star-Studded Reality Show ‘Gogo For The Gold’

It looks like Trixie Motel isn’t the only major reality show that’s going to be featuring some porn talent this year! Gogo For The Gold, a new OUTtv show from Jonny McGovern and Greg McKeon, officially debuts this Friday and is set to feature countless of our favorite porn personalities while on the search for America’s #1 Champion Gogo Superstar Star!

Along with Jonny and Greg, the competition reality show will feature judges (also known as Gogo Gods) like Falcon Studios actor Adrian Hart, “the Prince of Twerk” Jojo Guadz, and hairy hunk Teddy Bear. The twelve-person cast even includes adult performers like content creator Eddie Danger and fan favorite porn star Max Adonis competing for the $10,000 cash prize.

To celebrate this new show and find out what exactly it takes to be crowned America’s #1 Champion Gogo Superstar Star, we decided to catch up with host Jonny McGovern and chat about everything from Dita Von Teese’s tour to bad gogo hygiene, Hey Qween, and what it’s actually like working so closely with Greg McKeon. First off, what’s it been like hitting the road and touring with legend, icon, and star Dita Von Teese?
I’m talking to you today from Vienna, Austria. We’re traveling across Europe until June. This is my fifth tour with Dita and her amazing crew and it is one of my favorite jobs. Her aesthetic is so chic, the show is stunning, but it has the energy and wild crowds of a rock concert. Plus we stay at fancy hotels and perform at gorgeous theaters- it’s dreamy.

In addition to touring with Dita, you’re also launching Gogo For the Gold with OUTtv and porn star Greg McKeon where you’re in search of ‘America’s #1 champion Gogo superstar star’. What made you and Greg want to take this on and find the country’s gogo champion?
Gogo boys are the other side of the drag queen coin when it comes to gay clubs. They are the other stars of queer nightlife and parties. Greg and I have been best friends since I moved to LA. Back in the day, we threw parties together where the gogo boy was the star. We met so many talented, sexy, and interesting guys over the years that we knew they were natural for a dynamic and fun reality competition show.

For the show, you’re all looking to crown a STUD – Super Talented Underwear Dancer. What specifically makes a STUD and what are the judges looking for in their champion?
We’ve gathered an extremely diverse cast of talented, charismatic, and sexy guys who each bring their own style. Each of the judges, who we call the “Gogo Gods”, represent an aspect of what makes an amazing gogo boy. Greg is the God of Fantasy, Teddy Bear is The God of Individuality, Jojo Guadz is the God of Dance, and Adrian Hart is the God of Body. Each judge especially looks at those qualities. The gogo boy who embodies all of those aspects is the one who will win the title of “America’s #1 Champion Gogo Superstar Star.”

Going the other direction, I’m sure you’ve seen your fair not-so-great dancers in nightlife over the year. What are some qualities or habits that dancers just need to avoid?
Bad hygiene and bad attitude are the biggest gogo turn-offs.

Your show teases some intense challenges that involve many different aspects of being a champion gogo dancer. Can you give us a tease of what your favorite challenge was for this debut season?
We created all the challenges to be based on things gogo dancers face when working in nightlife like weird and unexpected audiences, tiny stages, and then we added in things that the modern gogo boy/social media star needs to be able to do like doing commercials, interviews, creating shows, and of course, the art of the striptease.

We love Greg McKeon over at The Sword. With Hey Qween and now this new show, you’ve been collaborating with him for a while. What’s Greg like to work with and how would you describe him as a judge on this show?
Greg is one of the greatest gogo boys of all time so he knows what he’s talking about. He’s mostly a pretty sweet and supportive judge but if the contestants aren’t giving their all there’s a much tougher side that definitely comes out on the show. Plus people don’t expect him to be funny and he really has some good zingers!

Looking at what you’re doing outside of GoGo For the Gold, are there any upcoming projects we should be looking out for with Jonny McGovern? Maybe a new season of Hey Qween?
My song Man Areas has been a huge viral hit with over 8 million streams this year so far on Spotify. Which is an expected delight. I’ve just signed it to a record label, so that’s very exciting. Fans of my Gay Pimpin podcast can find me podcasting several times a week on my Patreon and yes, Hey Qween will be back with a series of specials next year!
