Christian was compelled, in the wake of flack from the interview, to insist, “Some of my close friends happen to be transgender and I think they are some of the most inspiring people in my life… I completely support the fabulousness and amazing fashion inspiration that most transgender people provide.”
But we’d like to back up for a second: Does everyone need a refresher course in the usage of Trans vs. Tranny? To quote from The Sword style guide:
trans vs. tranny: while we may conflate the two in certain cases (i.e. “Today in Tranny News”), “tranny” should be reserved for describing drag queens, namely men who dress as women for the purpose of performance, and “trans” should be used when referring to transsexuals or gender-non-conforming individuals. The third term “transvestite” should be reserved especially for straight-identified men who like to dress in women’s clothing but who do not perform nor identify as drag queens, but occasionally are, themselves, hot tranny messes.
Any questions?
