Some San Francisco gays, for lack of a Fire Island or Palm Springs equivalent, spend their summer weekends in the sunny, down-home environs of the Russian River Valley, about an hour and a half north in Sonoma County. It’s been a favorite retirement spot for local lesbigays as well (thus the shots of hokey-pokey-ing grannies, below), and the setting for the annual festival for the hirsute known Lazy Bear Weekend.
Yesterday up in Guerneville (the town at the center of it all which turns gay for the summer), they celebrated the first ever Sonoma County Pride Parade — and event that was formerly held in downtown Santa Rosa and which has been on hiatus for four years.
Below, some selected shots of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence of both the SF and Russian River Orders — including founding mother Sister Mary Margaret Xplosion — gay dogs in attendance; a hula-hooping tranny; singing and dancing dykes of all ages; the boys in the porn booth; and one very enthusiastic sign-language interpreter.
