LISTEN UP FAGGOT!: DJ Earworm Ups the Aural Collage Ante

But then there are those of you who just discovered Girl Talk and can’t get enough of their relentless mashing of 70s pop, hip-hop, 80s pop and contemporary dance tracks into brain-teasing exercises in 21st century po-mo reappropriation.  Well allow us to introduce you to DJ Earworm. He’s sort of like the fine Armagnac to Girl Talk’s Hennesey, often using layers of five, six or even fourteen different tracks–as he did with this ode to 2007 or the decades-spanning gem, Over the Confluence of Giants–to create a nuanced and original pastiche.  But unlike some other masher-uppers–and in the spirit of Dangermouse’s Gray Album–Earworm will limit himself to just two or three perfectly suited tracks and make liberal use individual riffs within each one to render an original mix.

Case in point, his latest track, which uses Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” and the Beatles’ “She’s Leaving Home” to mash-up a little bit of pop gold.  Get it here.

Also, check out this dance-y fugue of Lady Gaga, New Order, Mary J. Blige, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Debelah Morgan and Queen.
