Would You Watch A Gay Porn Scene If You Knew The Actors Performing In It Were HIV-Positive?

Gay porn star Rod Daily came out today as being HIV-positive, and then promptly retired. But why should he retire? A lot of the gay porn scenes from the biggest gay porn studios today feature HIV-positive models.

Some of those models became positive before beginning their porn careers. Many became positive right in the midst of their careers, but because there is no industry standard for testing on the gay side of the porn industry, there was no one to leak their test results to Porn Wikileaks or XBiz, which happens routinely on the straight side (it’s only happened once on the gay side, to Mason Wyler). Others are unaware of their positive status as they go off to film a hot new scene tomorrow with a negative performer.

If every HIV-positive gay porn star came out with his status today, the industry would likely implode. Many negative models would, perhaps reasonably, reject being paired with positive models, no matter how understanding they were of the virus and its transmission. (I can understand being negative and sleeping with a positive person if you were in love, but why do it for $750?). AHF would swoop down (even more than it is already swooping) with more legal roadblocks, statewide legislation, and CalOSHA complaints. Studios might try to pair positive models with positive models and negative with negative at first, but how realistic is that kind of sorting given the scheduling, coordination, and extra hours of labor that most don’t even have the budget for?

But let’s say I’m wrong all about that. I would like to be wrong about all that.

Say that every positive gay porn performer got on his Twitter like Rod Daily did today and said, “Yep, I’m poz!” and studios kept filming their scenes as they do now, mixing the negatives with the positives—only now, you and everyone else knows who the positive performers are. Would you care? Should you care? How is it any of our business (it’s not) in the first place?

    Thank YOU for reading!

  2. He’s getting to be a little long in the tooth for a porn star, but he still looks amazing. If he did porn, I’d still watch. Same for batshit crazy Mason Wyler.

  3. Informed consent is kind of a thing for me. Serosorting is kind of a half-measure, but I’m not sure if it’s for better or worse.

I like to think that porn performers are operating with their eyes open. If not, they really need to be looking for another line of work, maybe. If the widest assumption is that only negative people are working, then they should also probably go live in a Sanrio outlet and not hang out with actual people.

  4. Nope. I don’t like scenes where I know, or it’s obvious, that the performers are HIV+. HIV remains a life-crippling disease, and for many people it is still deadly. That’s the reality and that’s the reason that the stigma remains. It’s important to have compassion and be understanding to those who have HIV. But not for the studios or an industry that pushes bareback sex and HIV+ performers. Until the disease is eradicated completely, the porn industry is irresponsible promoting unsafe sex or using pos performers. Best wishes for Daly, but he’s a dumbass for behaving the way he did and contracting this disease in this day and age.

  5. Mr. Enemabag Jones

I can’t watch him knowing he’s been banging that orangutang all these months. If he was going to do a chick, he could have picked a cute one.

  6. No
I am an MD and I have seen the horrible things HIV infection caused. I have seen first hand up close what HIV/AIDS did to so many of my own patients. Young, used to be very beautiful men, broken lives and relationships, family prejudices and ignorance validated and reinforced and propagated. There was a dramatic fall of new cases but since barebacking is now again in vogue, I am afraid the infection rates and cases will rise again. BTW although there are medications that now can control the virus’ replication or increase in number , the side-effects of these drugs can be devastating, both in physical appearance and internal organ damage. I’m just saying…

  7. I wanted to do the poll but I don’t agree with the wording of them. I would have voted “YES – because as long as it’s done safely then it doesn’t matter”.

I was also surprised that the gay porn performers don’t have to be tested regularly. I assumed they had to prove status before each scene they shot.

  8. I didn’t vote because I didn’t like the way the statements after the choices were worded.

I’d happily watch condom porn irrespective of the HIV status of those involved–presuming, of course, that I found them attractive in the first place. Latex up the gang at TIM (remember, porn is only a fantasy, so work with me here) and I still wouldn’t watch that ugliness, given how, generally speaking, unhealthy their models often look. Go figure.

I don’t watch bareback porn irrespective of the supposed current status of the actors. It’s a turn off to think that I might be watching an HIV infection or re-infection in progress.

  9. I want my porn bareback and have no interest in condom porn whatsoever.

I will continue to view bareback porn despite attempts to stigmatize the performers, producers and the audience.

No one is forced to make or view any type of porn. If you are opposed to bareback porn, fine, that is your choice. Don’t view it. I don’t like condoms in my porn and that is my choice. Stop trying to force me to view only what is deemed acceptable by a select few seeking to impose their morals on others like fundamentalist religious nut cases.

    1. Blah-blah-blah… who has ever tried to literally slap your hand away from clicking on a bareback porn video? My guess is no one. Aside from in cyber space, you probably don’t even discuss your porn viewing preferences. You defensive bareback porn enthusiasts kill me being so hostile, acting as if people who voice their objections to the concept of bareback porn are literally taking it away from you. It’s a hot topic, and people have a right to their stance on the matter…and if some people want to assert their distaste for bareback porn, then so be it. Stop reacting like you’re being oppressed by their POV or that your porn preference is being jeopardized by their opposition to it. You sound like a baby.

Just like you say that if people don’t like bareback porn, they shouldn’t watch it…I’ll say to you that if you’re so thin-skinned about your love of bareback porn, and are so easily offended by those who openly object to it, then you should refrain from reading blog comments about this issue. Go watch your TIM conversion orgy scenes to your hearts content and save the discourse for people who aren’t so insecure that they are personally threatened by an opposite POV.

  10. There are more HIV+ porn mega-stars in mainstream gay porn than you guys think. I know several, personally. Like, with greatest hits collections. Their fans have no clue. Porn is a fantasy. It shouldn’t matter to you if the star has HIV or not (on a sexual level), because you’re not going to have sex with them anyways.

Very sad for Rod. It’s not a death sentence anymore, but until there’s a cure it’s going to be a big part of his life. Nobody should joke about this.

Wear condoms, guys. Tops get HIV too. Even when you’re in a relationship, unless you’ve been together a long-ass time and you want to take the risk of trusting them, you should be using condoms. People make mistakes. People lie. It only takes one quickie with someone outside the relationship to bring HIV home. Relying on tests and trust isn’t as safe as wrapping it up.

And personally, I think a slick condom on a big fat cock is hot.

  11. And Zach, I think you made a little bubu by using the word ‘watch’ instead of ‘enjoy’. We watch so much stuff and the only joy some audience members feel is when they post their negative comments on message boards / blogs about how bad the thing was they just watched.

For some reality is a buzzkill. Condoms are a buzzkill, because they are chained to the brutal reality of STDs. The tell tale tattoos of HIV positive models (like he toxic sign) in bareback movies are a buzzkill. When you watch porn for its fantasy factor or the worship factor (where every model is perfect, straight, hot looking, in perfect shape, etc.) TMI (too much information) can get in the way.

Personally I enjoy the fantasy of passion where I believe that the two (or more) performers really enjoy having sex with each other. Cockyboys’ Thing of Beauty is a good example in that regard. For me knowing a porn performer’s HIV status wouldn’t be a big deal unless I get the impression that it was a big deal for the scene parter(s) and the whole scene feels awkard, forced, and strained.

  12. Oh and FYI none of us know Rod or his girlfriend and what they did in their personal life. It’s unfortunate for them and I hope they can somehow lean on each other during this time. Lets quit casting judgement. We don’t know the first thing about them, their personal lives or what they did and didn’t do with each other or others. There’s an element of danger in almost EVERY job so let’s stop acting like this is the end of the world. Rules and testing procedures were in place, they found the virus (and ps nobody is dead or in the hospital wearing diapers covered in lessions) so let’s all just stand firm next to this young couple and say “hey… Shit happens. We’re here to support you and Let He Who Is Without “Sin” Cast the first stone. “. All is good. Hugz.

  13. They’re letting POZ guys do gay porn now? Excuse me while I throw up everywhere. Ew! That’s so gross and morally wrong!!! POZ guys spread aids and I heard they got aids fr fucking monkeys! There’s no way ill even look at a POZ guy let alone jerk
Off to them. That’s just gross and wrong and gay porn studios should be sued and shut down for allowing aids models on set. What if they transmit the disease through kissing or sharing utensils during their meal breaks? Fucking gross! All aids porn stars should be exiled to an island where they can live in their POZ filth! Join the Revo. Banish the pozzy aids dudes forever!

  14. In this case,Rod Daily used condoms in his gay porn scenes but didn’t use them in his straight or trans scenes, nor with his girlfriend who was found to have HIV before he did.
HIV is still most likely to affect gay men but straight people are seeing a rise in that and other STDS.

    1. I think its pretty obvious who contracted it first and transmitted it to him. She shows up positive and he is negative. One week later(allegedly) he is positive. Its pretty clear where he got it from.

      1. Don’t make silly assumptions, Rod hadn’t been tested since July 10th, she got tested with the latest methods (which means they don’t wait for antibodies to show up) on August 21st.
Just because she got tested first, doesn’t mean she got it first.

We don’t know at this point who gave it to the other, and as this was most likely contracted off set, it’s really none of our business.

        1. You know good well she tested positive and he tested negative right afterwards and a week later(allegedly) tested positive. That’s common sense. If you get chicken pox and then your significant other gets it a week later who do you think they got it from? The dog? I don’t think so.

          1. This is my understanding of the Daily/Bay situation based on the information out there in social media divulged by themselves…

They have been in a relationship where they have been practicing condomless sex with each other in their personal lives while she has had condomless ‘straight’ sex at work (with mandatory STI testing) and where he has been working predominantly as a bottom in condom-mandatory gay porn (without mandatory testing- even though he has been testing himself regularly until May ’13).

Bay in anticipation of a new scene got tested and found to be HIV positive following an HIV ANTIGEN test. Daily got tested in reaction to his girlfriend test and claims that his initial ANTIBODY test was negative but that it became positive a week later.

            Things to note-

A point on the effectiveness of having a negative HIV test on the risk of transmission to others- The result of an HIV testing is not always 100% accurate at determining a person’s status because each test has a ‘window’ period where a recently infected person could have a negative result. The length of this wondow period depends on the test performed. The gold standard test for confirming HIV infection is the ANTIBODY test but the window period is 3 months. Which means that someone could be infected but test negative for up to 3 months after. The ANTIGEN TEST can detect HIV protein in someones body up to a week after infection but the point is that there is still a window *even though it’s a smaller one*. So testing is not perfect but it’s pretty damn good.

A point on the effectiveness of using condoms on the risk of transmission to others- condoms are not 100% effective because of both mechanical failure (split, slip, dodgy brands) and user failure. So condoms are not perfect but they are pretty damn good.

A point on vaginal versus anal sex on the risk of transmission to others- HIV is harder to transmit than the common cold but the medical and socioeconomical consequences are far more significant. From easiest to hardest way to get HIV (assuming all else equal- i.e. no condom use)- receptive anal (regardless of gender) > receptive vaginal> ‘topping’> oral

Bottom line is that without more information it is completely impossible to conclude who infected whom in that relationship. From what is known publically they could even have been infected separately.

What their situation has solidified in my mind is that sex, like a lot of activities we enjoy in life, is not without risks. And since I ain’t about to stop doing it anytime soon (!) I figure I am going to make it as safe as I can for myself. Even though I am all settled down and exclusive with an alright bloke (okay, damn it, the man’s perfect to me!) we get tested regularly and we bag up when we get down and dirty. I know that for some that seems extreme but for us there is trust, there is love (which we do each other) but then there is also reality and safety. So yeah, we care for each other a heck of a lot but we are also very rational practical people and we know that one of us could could fuck up and betray our relationship (70% of blokes in relationships do). We have decided that it would seriously suck that if that were to happen that on top of heartache we added a hitherto incurable disease into the mix.

To my mind the presence or absence of a condom during sex says little about how much you love someone just as its presence or absence does little to make an adult film scene more or less hot.

While I accept that a significant proportion of men working in gay porn are HIV positive, rightly or wrongly, DEFINITIVELY KNOWING the HIV status of a porn performer does affect my viewing where there is serodiscordance or where I do not know the status of the other performer (whether it is a condomless scene or not although I am more comfortable with scenes using condoms) and that is because I am conscious of the possibility of being witness to a seroconverting event…

    2. She would have to prove that Rod was the one who gave it to her. And back then it might have been easier to prove that by saying “Well he does gay porn so clearly that’s where he got it from!” But now science has improved vastly and can identify the source of his and her HIV. There are DNA identifiers as to the source of every strain of HIV, and if there are any DNA indicators from Rod’s HIV, then clearly he isn’t the source of her HIV.

      1. The thing about this situation though is that he did condom only shoots in porn and he has admitted having unprotected sex with only her. On his and her twitter they talk about not living wild and crazy lifestyles and how they never go out but hers is filled with pics that say otherwise and he would post crazy pics of him and her getting down and as soon as a fan would bring up the straight gay 4 pay thing he would take them down. Im not saying that having a good time is wrong but someone in this situation is not being fully honest about their lifestyle.

  15. I sometimes feel like the gay community is still making HIV such a stigma for gay people. I get that one might be a HIV phobic, I’m the guy that won’t eat after you cause I don’t want cold sores. But what should be addressed is the fact that he contracted this in his personal life not on a set. In all honesty do we know any of the statuses of performers that perform? No. We either automatically assume they are positive or negative unless we know from fact their status. What we should take away from this is that HIV doesn’t discriminate. It does not care if your gay, bi, straight(sexual as gay 4 payers call themselves now) you need to be cautious in your personal life. Unfortunately he did not take the same precautions in his personal life as he did on sets and this is the end result. You watch condom porn and assume they are negative, you watch bareback porn and assume they are all positive. Truth of the matter unless they have stated it you don’t know. You only assume and you know what they say when you assume you make an ASS out of U and ME(ass-u-me spells assume incase you didn’t get that).

  16. Would I watch a gay porn scene knowing one or both of the performers is HIV-positive? Yes.

Would I watch a gay porn scene with GAY-FOR-PAY and newly HIV-poz Rod Daily? Hell no.

  17. I’m negative, and have done lots of scene with actors I knew are POZ. Guess what. I didn’t care because I believe in safer sex. It worked for me in the worst days of the AIDS epidemic and it still works now. It’s not 100% perfect but as risks go, safer sex, especially with someone that knows he’s POZ and is taking meds is a small risks.

I won’t stigmatize a huge chunk of my community over HIV status. As long as a guy respects my desire to play safe, I respect his health status no matter which way it is.

Stop being mean about people’s status, poz or neg.

    1. Love your scenes, and you need to update your website! :)

BTW, I noticed there’s a film called Pierced that was never released from TitanRough. Who else was in that film? and what was the extreme content that prevented it from being released?

  18. If Rod Daily only does scenes w/condom studios, I see no reason for him to retire. The main reason we tell folks to use condoms in gay sex is to allow poz guys to hook up w/neg guys w/o transmitting the virus. So…why contradict that message by freaking out when a poz guy has sex on camera using a condom? It’s asinine. Especially if any of that treatment comes from the condom-maniacs who frequently comment on this blog and other similars when they cover bareback porn.

    But I digress.

No reason for Rod to retire. I hope he makes his way back.

  19. I would definitely still watch his porn even knowing he is HIV positive. Rod Daily is hot, and he was a good performer. Although I think I wouldn’t enjoy it as much if he was in bareback porn, especially topping. Personally I think it’s a wise move for him to leave the business before realizing that the studios would turn their back on him.

I think had he not needed to make his status public, he would still continue to do porn work. I don’t believe most studios such as Raging Stallion, Hot House, Lucas and Titan even require testing since they have probably believe the condom is enough at their studios. And it probably is, considering we haven’t heard of an outbreak in the gay condom studios.

Speaking of former pornstars who were HIV+, wasn’t Cole Tucker publicly known to be positive? I think he might have mentioned it at the start of his career, yet he had a good number of scenes filmed at studios such as Hot House and Titan. He was even fisted in one of his last scenes with Titan.

  20. Absolutely!!! I’ll never stop watching. I don’t care if performers/models are poz or neg. If the sex is hot and it’s between two or more consenting adults, that’s fine with me.

  21. Honestly I don’t care if a model is HIV positive. It ain’t like I’m gonna fuck the guy, I’m just jerking off to his scene that he is performing. So I don’t think it’s a problem to watch them perform at all. I just personally am a HIV-phobe cause I am scared of the disease not the person. I can hang out with HIV people that’s no problem. Just personally I couldn’t date a guy who is positive cause I’m scared of the disease cause there’s no cure for it yet. And I want to have kids by my blood someday, I don’t them to have the same disease if I ever got HIV. I’ll teach them not to be afraid of the people, just the thing that is hurting them. I won’t stand in their way if they choose to love an HIV positive person. I’m getting a little off subject here lol I’m sorry. I’m saying is that yes it will still be just as hot if a positive performer continues their career. As long as they be safe not to infect others or even if they fuck other positive porn stars, it’ll be fine by me. I just wanna say to all the HIV positive gay porn stars, gay for pay, straight, or whatever niche, I wanna say I’m sorry for what happened and I hope for a cure every day so you can be well again. You are all still beautiful people, this disease doesn’t change any of that.

  22. this is so sad he always used condoms in his flicks….how did this happen? i thought i read something about his girl being +??

i recently became infected with hep b, ive been really depressed about it , i never really had much sex to begin with because of my hiv fear,i have never ever bb in my life. i have no idea what i did wrong but its a std mostly (ive never used needles) what ever it is i did wrong though i’ve no one to blame but myself somewhere along the line i had to have decided to do something fucked up. the doc says it never goes away just like hiv, the irony here is that the med i’m on is the exact same hiv med they are using today for treatment and PREP. how am i ever going to have sex again because i am just too mortified to tell anyone and i couldnt ever have sex without disclosing…what a fuckin idiot i was…

    1. Sorry to hear that johnn. Just a reminder for every who are sexually active to get themsevles tested every 6 mths for STIs. Knowing is defintely better than not knowing! And you can vaccinate yourselves against Hep B if you havent done so yet.

  23. Oh.. and that there’s a stigma on performers being openly poz… especially gay performers… well, it’s just ridiculous at this point.

The Rod Daily situation is really unfortunate. I’ve not been keeping track of the details, but you know it’s going to be twisted and used in horrible ways by assholes like Bryan Fischer and Tony Perkins et al… The only people that know the details of what happened are Rod and his partner so there’s no point speculating. They can share what they want to share.

    1. That’s what’s really infuriating; they’re using the example of a STRAIGHT MAN who had sex with men for money (through gay porn and escort work) to attack the GAY community.

  24. Sometimes I cringe at the comments on here… I’ve lived in SF a long ass time and known a lot of porn stars in person… big names.. huge names… and they’re poz. I.don’t.care. It doesn’t bother me at all… I watch “vintage” porn where the guys are long dead… I’ve also had a lot of sex with poz guys; I just have some limits as to what I can do for various reasons. I’m negative and I’ve never had bareback sex… even when in monogamous relationships…

  25. Of course I would and I have, and so have all of you. HIV+ guys are the majority in this industry, and I have no problem watching them in condom or bareback porn.

  26. I probally still would. I mean I enjoy a big dick and getting plowed out as much as the next guy but I have always approached sex with one night stands or pop corn hoes with the thought that they could be the one that will infect me so I use condoms in most situations. I can actually say I will let you fuck me with a condom first before I give you a blowjob without one, ask the hook up I had in a alley in Chicago 2 years ago. And F.Y.I. you can get STI’s from blow jobs. I’m a responsible hoe. That being said I’d still watch and I hate that I’m not going to get to see him perform anymore as a result of his recent circumstances.

  27. For years and years I worked in an inner city trauma center and never had the option if someone was coming in spurting blood and God knows what else to say “Whoops, bye, this one may be HIV positive!”

  28. Yes
Because I don’t think it matters if the models are HIV positive or negative.
I also don’t need to know if they have diabetes, high cholesterol or only one kidney.
I don’t need to know their medical history to enjoy a scene if it’s done well.
What matters is that their are working legally, consensually and knowledgeably whatever the context of the scene may be.
They are all grownups who are responsible for their own bodies and health (as we all should be).

  29. Yes, I would watch an HIV positive gay performer in a gay video. Who’s to say, I haven’t already seen a HIV positive performer in a gay video. The same applies to gay sites, ads, and the free gay chatlines. One of the first men I met through a local gay newspaper in the 90’s was HIV positive and he didn’t tell me his status. I was new to the gay life and I never was a promiscuous person, thank goodness. The guy later became sick with full blown AIDS and he became a recluse and passed away. Several of the men I met through gay ads turned out to be HIV positive. I will admit, I was afraid to jerk off or have any type of sexual contact with and HIV positive men, however, I suspect I’ve had sexual relations with a HIV man with no penetration. HIV is high amongst black and Puerto Rican men in New York City and Washington, D.C. Masturbation is much safer watching a gay or straight porn. I would watch a movie with a HIV gay porn model, as long as they are hot and attractive. Rod Daily is an attractive man, however, I’ve seen him bottom a lot in gay porn movies. Is it true, a bottom has a higher risk on contracting HIV than a top? I never Rod do a bareback movie. I truly wish this young man well.

    1. I know this makes me the absolute worst gay person ever…but I tend to enjoy the G4P models because I assume with them they’re not positive.

I tend to equate porn models with HIV as being dirty irresponsible whores….instead of the clean cut whores I tend to go for.

      1. If anything, I think of the GAY-FOR-PAY performers as being diseased and dirty! Herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea are commonplace in str8 porn. There was a syphilis scare not too long ago. Daily’s personal history bears this out: a straight man who works in GAY porn (and also does str8 and tranny porn without condoms) and escorts (for men) on the side and dates a succession of str8 porn starlets (fathering a child on one of them) who also prostitute themselves on the side (I’m guessing condoms don’t feature highly in str8 female escort work). Seriously, every G4P that comes to mind has a similar story.

  30. Now finally a subject we can talk about….

For years it has always bothered Me how everybody fights for the rights of the HIV+ models. Everybody needs to respect their privacy, you shouldn’t ask a model their status because its rude. You shouldn’t discriminate against hiv+ models they have rights. And I agree with most of that…

But what about the rights of the negative model?? We don’t get told the status of other models unless that Studio/site tests its models. Negative models are constantly getting paired with models who are HIV+ without their consent or knowledge. I personally know models who are HIV+ and they will lie to scene partners who ask them about their status. They say they are negative because they have low viral loads or they are undetectable. Still they are lieing to their scene partners and there is nobody there to Call them out on their lies.

Models who are poz know how to use the system to their benefit. A poz model will stay away from any company that tests its models, turn down studios/sites that require test results prior to working with them. It’s all smoke and mirrors until someone gets caught and exposes their results for the world to see.

Negative models don’t get any special treatment….Where as a bare back porn star can work in mainstream as long as they put out an interview/blog post/Tweet saying that their prior bare back work was a mistake. Today the standard is a model can jump back and forth between Bare back and condom porn without any repercussions. A few years ago that same porn star had to get tested, wait at least a year before applying at any mainstream studios or had to change their porn star name and hopefully not get caught. That is all changed now….

I was on Twitter the other day and got into a Twitter feud with a bareback porn star. We went back and forth at it, I told him to share his “Status” with his followers(I admit to low punching)and I was met with barrage of comments on Twitter saying it was rude to ask him his “Status” and that his “Status” was his own business. But this same bareback porn star can get on twitter commenting on “How many loads his bttm took of his” He can sell his content online with titles like “Fill my hole” “Breed that ass” and he can brag about all the bttms he left leaking…But I was in bad taste for asking his “Status”??? somehow I demonized him by asking his status.

To Me it seems that the “negative model” is the oddity of Today. That is one fact that makes Me scared to see the future of porn..

    1. Diesel, I agree with you wholeheartedly. If other HIV+ performers were as honest as you, working in porn would be a lot safer. Sadly, people seem to only pay attention to really hot white guys.

      1. Do you like to watch cum-eating? A cut in the other guy’s mouth could facilitate transmission. Are you aware that condoms sometimes break? Working the vast majority of the time is not the same as working all the time. If they were 100% effective, I’d agree with you, but the people who face the slim possibility of falling ill still deserve to know they’re at risk.

      2. I would take this seriously if I didn’t know for a fact that Diesel has slept with or tried to sleep with guys who I know lied to him about their status.

He can not sleep with HIV+ plus performers all he wants: he’s only fooling himself if he thinks he’s avoiding exposure.

    2. I don’t think there are that many gay porn models that started with bareback companies and migrated to condom companies. A few but not very many. If you don’t want to work with HIV+ performers then only work with companies that test and don’t work with HIV+ performers.

    3. Thanks for speaking out Diesel, I agree that this issue is lost in the goodie 2 shoes babble, HIV+ men often lie about their statuses and you have every right to not want to have sex with them if you don’t want to risk an exposure to the virus ( plus we are talking about a workplace in porn)

People who say they ” don’t know” are also terrible and they are the ones I actually avoid. I used to have sex with HIV+ guys who had the courage to admit it up front if they had low viral loads . Now I don’t really have sex anymore so it doesn’t matter.

But you should know that some people go out of their way to try and infect others by ripping the condom or try to make you do very dangerous stuff that they think are hot while they know full well that they are poz. THey don’t ask if it’s OK first, they do it and then you need to figure out the consequences on your own.

How do I find they are poz later. If someone has willingly put me through a risk, build a fake profile online, ask for bb, say I’m poz, and there they say they are poz too. Mind fucked.

Keep in mind I have protected sex, those who rely on what their partners tell them when it comes to their status to have bareback sex…well just don’t trust anyone, this is how the virus spreads. This and recklessness.

    4. The best advice I can give you is to quite porn, it’s not worth your life. There are other jobs out there for you to make a honest living.

  31. Rod Daily’s predicament doesn’t erode the idea we won’t watch poz performers. Gay men are faux HIV-phobic: in private they’ll discriminate usually only if they’re told about a status but they conveniently forget to use safe sex practices if no brings up the subject and their partner(s) “don’t look HIV-ish.” (I am guilty too at times) They’ll have no problem beating off to performers even if they bother to learn their status. I suspect Daily’s retirement is to avoid the HIV-phobic straight performers and studios that a gearing to black list him or worse.

His infection is a reminder to all gay men that would should be using everything we can to protect our sexual health. Condoms are at the top of the list in protection and most cities have places giving them out for free. People can make their own choices in private. However, hopefully this reminds gay studios that have gone bareback (and straight studios) that condoms should always be used on set or featured if to just protect performers. This has the added benefit of conveying to the audience that condoms should be routinely used until there is a cure/vaccine for HIV and serious STIs. Not all viewers will but even if a few do it’s worth it. HIV only continues because people are so cavalier about barebacking post millennium.

    1. Bareback porn is completely irresponsible to the performers and the gay community at large. HIV is not easy and infections are on the rise. Bareback porn disgusts me – I see no fantasy in taking a risk with HIV and other STI’s. Just wear condoms guys!

Good luck Rod Daily – thanks for always wearing condoms in your movies and setting a good example.

  32. I do wonder how a performer feels when it ‘comes out’ that another performer they worked with was positive (i.e., Erik Rhodes, Josh Weston, Gus Maddox, etc).

To your point, Zach …. in everyone’s personal life they should have the chance to decide (even when following safer sex precautions). I’m sure a lot of personal relationships have ended upon a revelation of HIV+ status. I don’t think most performers would say “What the heck …. $ 750 is $ 750”. I think the stigma is there once confronted with the ‘reality’ ….. even if, up until then, they have been practicing safer sex in their performances. I think if you asked the porn stars to vote, the results would be completely opposite of what you’re seeing right now (60 % would watch …. I don’t think 60 % of the performers would perform with a *known* HIV+ model)

  33. Yes. When you’re hot you’re hot. Lets stop stigmatizing guys who are poz. It astounds me that such ignorance still exists within our community!
