The Steve Lady Extravaganza: Memorial for a Beloved Man and Drag Queen

The event featured a lot of boozing; a well curated set of photos of both the man and the drag queen persona he created; a video montage of Steven’s/The Steve Lady’s performances projected on a wall upstairs; MCs Heklina, Juanita More! and Peaches Christ (the SF drag triumvirate); as well as tribute performances by Fauxnique, Connie Champagne, Steven’s sister Natalia Price, Glamamore, David J of Bauhaus/Love and Rockets (in whose play Steven made his final stage appearance earlier this year), Birdie Bob Watt, Nikki Star and the Sacred Heart Gospel Choir.

It was, all-in-all, a moving tribute to a lovely and talented man. Everyone assembled seemed equally stunned to be The only awkward moment came when the requisite “as gays, we create our own families” talk began, with Steven’s actual family all sitting right there.  Several friends acknowledged that, despite missing him and the seriousness of the event, Steven was not often the most serious of people, and he was more about beautiful things, performing, having fun and making cunty remarks.
