California’s Condoms-In-Porn Bill, AB 1576, Is Dead
Hallelujah.
We’ll know more next week, but for now, the bill before the California State Senate that would require condoms to be used on all gay and straight porn shoots, by law, was put “in suspense” by the Senate’s Appropriations Committee on Monday, meaning they’re not sure they have room in the budget to pay for implementing it if it passed.
Well, the so-called ‘condom bill’ passed by a single vote today in the California Senate’s Labor & Industrial Committee, which means it moves on to a full Senate vote and could be very difficult to kill at this point despite the many, very well reasoned arguments against it.
The highly controversial and poorly written “condom bill” that’s now working its way through the California legislature, known as AB 1576, has inspired a ton of reaction on the straight side of the porn industry, where condom use has been all but non-existent in the last few decades.
