Should All Porn Scenes Have To Include Two Guys With Chemistry?

Here’s a good question: Should all gay porn directors be required to cast two performers who are, legitimately, into each other? Is the failure of a lot of contemporary porn a factor of the sheer volume of it that’s being produced, particularly as just 20-minute web scenes?

For the casual porn consumer, one who, say, doesn’t ever pay for it and just jerks off to it once a week or something, it probably doesn’t matter. You’re looking for a nice and dick and some ass-slapping sounds, and some convincing “fuck yeahs” and pretty soon you’ve blown your wad and shut the laptop.

But for the avid fans, all you connoisseurs and aficionados out there, you can spot a scene with no chemistry from miles away. The dudes are going at it. They’re both “sexual” enough that they can get hard and make each other cum just like they would if they were in steam room at the gym and the pickings were slim. But when you’re paying for it, it makes you more of a critic, and you demand a certain amount of raw, animal desire to come out of these people you’re paying to watch fuck.

Let’s take Exhibit A, Colby Keller. Sometimes, a Colby Keller scene is a little less-than. Maybe a touch less fiery than the last one you saw. But Colby is, hands down, an excellent porn star who can find chemistry with a lot of people, as both a top and a bottom. Just look at this flip-flop scene from a couple months ago with Tommy Defendi, from NakedSword’s Dream Team. It was easily one of the hottest pairings of last year, and not the first time these two had met. It’s a scene you can practically smell it’s so hot, in part do to the work of director mr. Pam, and in part due to these two guys’ obvious hots for each other.

Or there’s Colby Keller fucking Dale Cooper all over a Mexican beach house in CockyBoys’ Thing of Beauty. Director Jake Jaxson knows a thing or two about chemistry.

Exhibit B: This hot pro-am scene, shot on the fly in a hotel room but featuring Marco Blaze fucking then boyfriend Levi Poulter. Sure, these are two porn stars fucking on their off time, but they clearly want each other. And Marco could always be a power fucking top.

And, to go with that, all the scenes between real life boyfriends in NakedSword’s Boyfriends series. At least you can be guaranteed nobody there is gay-for-pay.

Exhibit C: We’ll call this Medium Chemistry. You’ve got Dominic Pacifico bottoming for Connor Maguire in a new scene for Extra Big Dicks. The two seem medium into each other. You can’t say Connor isn’t pretty turned on, and being the “sexually greedy” bisexual that he is, it works. But this doesn’t look like the most blow-your-hair-back sex that these two have ever had. It’s a job.

Exhibit D: And here’s a recent example of zero chemistry, from Daddy’s Club on Men.com. You’ve got Charlie Harding, who’s probably not that into twinks to begin with, and you’ve got little Justin Dean, a.k.a. Chris Crocker’s on-again-off-again ex, who definitely looks like he was only there for the paycheck.

And now, listen to porn director Mark Bessenger in Episode 11 of that never-ending “I’m a Porn Star” documentary series, discuss how “all porn stars have to be actors to some degree,” in order to fake chemistry, you see. And this speech is shown alongside a bunch of scenes by that fine actor Rocco Reed.

  1. Well, Colby and Dale have fucked each other A LOT on video, perhaps more than any two performers currently working. There should be chemistry between them!

    1. I read they used to date, it was Colby who connected Dale to porn. But yeah, probably one of the best on-screen pairings.

  2. Finally i read someone talking about how good of a pornstar is Colby Keller. He is for me the best right now in gay porn and is true that he can have chemestry with most of his partners.

About the post in my opinion i really need to feel they have some kind of chemestry because if they just looks like they’re bored and just working it takes the passion away and i lose interest in it.

  3. The only time I don’t think chemistry is necessary is when the top has enough of a gigantic dick for the both of them. I don’t like that Men.Com, ken dolls fucking bullshit, it gets boring after awhile. There’s only so many times you can watch a half-hard straight guy lazily fuck someone. (Looking at you Paddy.)

    1. Yea but a big dick can only do so much. It’s hot to look at, but when the hot dick is a terrible top, then the scene is such a killjoy.

  4. Check out Jess does Blake from Seancody if you want to see chemistry. Jess has a huge dick that is hard as a rock and Blake is moaning for him never to stop fucking him.

  5. Sometimes people don’t always look for chemistry. The fantasy of the men is enough. People like Paddy O’Brian, but i find him a bore. He’s hot as hell, and that’s enough for some people. Chemistry/passion is my #1 criteria for porn. Though it wasn’t always; when i was younger, I was into that straight fantasy, so i watched ASG and Gemini Men, and early Active Duty which really pushed that whole “not gay, just doing it for the money” thing. Passion is also something you can input yourself. Colby Keller is a good porn star, but i don’t like all his scenes. Maybe it’s his partner, or that he’s topping ( I like him as a bottom) or the way the scene is filmed. I think those things affect whether you read passion or not.

  6. All I’ve ever wanted from my porn is for them to look like they want to be there. And that’s a lot more likely if they actually DO want to be there. Genuine chemistry makes everything better.

Think back on the scenes you have kept, the ones you go back to again and again, the ones you would think of as your favourites. What is it about those scenes that drives you crazy? Is there any one of them that’s NOT because of the chemistry between the performers?

  7. I think chemistry just makes the scene a whole lot better, especially when the sex isn’t all that great. Very rarely can a scene be salvaged when the top and/or bottom are just awful at what they do, but you add in chemistry and there’s a connection that I personally could follow along throughout the scene.
