San Francisco Nudity Ban Passes (Again), And People Like Conner Habib Should Be Happy

By a vote of 6-5, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ mostly procedural re-vote today to ban public nudity just reaffirmed what they already passed last month. This is great news for children who have the right to not be exposed to giant erect cocks, and even greater news for people like Conner Habib—and people like myself—who think that public nudity is a good thing.

Now that public nudity is banned, the people who truly believe in it—the real nudists—will have to work hard to prove why they should be allowed to be naked. They will now have the chance to finally push back against the non-nudists—the ones who brought on this ban, via their cock rings—and the exhibitionists who are interested in sex–not nudity. Because this is about nudity in public, not sex in public, right? People who want to have sex in public and people who want to be nude in public are two very different kinds of people, and if you don’t believe me, ask any nudist. Anyone who tries to conflate the two groups is someone who has no idea what they’re talking about.

True nudists will have to fight for the right to be nude, and maybe they deserve to be challenged this way. To be fair, true nudists should be held accountable for letting the exhibitionists become the face (among other things) of their movement, for letting things get out of hand, and for letting in all of those runaway erections. Let the true nudists show themselves and stand up for their cause, as this is their chance to articulate what it means to be a nudist and what it means to celebrate the human body.

This ban, while definitely a hurdle, is nothing a nudist can’t overcome. It gives nudists the opportunity to take back and properly define their lifestyle, at least in San Francisco. It gives nudists the opportunity to cast out the bad apples–the ones who have sought to sexualize innocent bystanders who have the right to not be sexualized.

Today is a great day for true nudists, who now have the chance to show everyone just who they really are. I stand with them in their fight, and I hope Conner Habib joins us!

  1. Nudity is neither a threat or sexual when you are not sexually interested in that nude person. Why do people care so much for others they have no sexual interest in to be nude around them? I never saw or heard of an incident on a public street where naked people bullied a clothed person into getting naked, too.

  2. Nudity, in general, is fine, because it’s about the freedom of being in your birthday suit. Drawing attention to the sex organ with a cock ring or “jewelry” is about sex, not freedom. It’s good to value your freedom, but don’t take it for granted.

It’s all about being considerate of other people around you. I’d bet ALL of you have accidentally touched a piece of gum that some random person stuck to the bottom of a table or chair.

I kinda blame the nudist community for not taking steps to prevent some of their members from taking that freedom for granted. If they had proposed a ban of wearing cock rings or penis jewelry while nude in public, perhaps they wouldn’t have their freedom taken away.

  3. You know as a person who lived in SF for a long time nudity was a way of life and part of the spirit of the city. I’m ok with that. But in recent years people had pushed it way too far. See what happens when you push too hard.I am happy that what had been going on in the streets of the Castro for the past couple years is done. Now if they went back to the year 2010 level of nudity I might be ok with it. Just my 2 cents…

  4. When we had a home-invasion at our home in the Castro from a psycho nut a few years back, it was NOT a nude person.
When our car was broken into it was very certainly NOT a nude person.
When a woman was assaulted on Pond Street it was NOT by a nude person.
When my transexual friend was mugged, it was NOT by a nude person.
When I was very nearly fag-bashed ( I ran fast) it was definitely NOT by 5 nude men.
When someone parked to block my neighbor’s driveway, it was NOT by a nude person.

When I next call the police, it will certainly not be because I saw a nude person. It will be because crime matters, not skin.

(Connor, thanks for posting the emails for the supervisors- I emailed each one. Felt good. Almost even better than getting naked!)

    1. Obviously all of those bad things happened because those people were wearing clothes. San Francisco should ban all clothing!

Unless your argument is that SF shouldn’t ban nudity because it doesn’t prevent bad things from happening. Using that same argument, if a bank is robbed by someone who isn’t a murderer, murder shouldn’t be illegal. Brilliant!

  5. If they are just hanging out in the nude, your point would be valid. However, if they are hanging out in the nude and using erotic decorations on themselves, i.e. cock rings, that is a very different purpose. From what I have read, it seems a rather large number of nudists were doing the latter. And yes, eroticism is information the little ones are not ready to process. “Conner”, or whatever your real name is, I don’t have your back. You lost this one. Ranting will not make it go away.

  6. Its a sad day in San Francisco!!
I live across the street from where the nudists hang out in the Castro and they are purely a delight. They remind me daily of the wonderful community of the Castro district and the freedom of SF that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. I have never seen anyone be inappropriate or harass any young children. They just hang out, no biggie. Its awesome.
I was at City Hall today when they voted and Thank You to the nudists who ripped off their clothes in protest. You guys and gals rock! Thank you!

If San Francisco banned nudity…I worry what’s next??? Banning Folsom Street Fair? Banning chaps? What about BDSM gear or even drag? And gawd forbid – going after the gay porn industry in San Fran???

Conner – I got your back babe!!!

    1. You’re a serious freedom fighter, Pam! Love you! I’m not a nudist myself but definitely appreciate those same guys. I’ve never seen them harass anyone, and if they did, I’ve never heard of anyone employing existing lewdness laws to deal with them. The freedom to do what we want with our bodies is huge. I’ll always be working for that freedom.

      1. conner habib is still an idiot

I hope a man who thought that voting does not matter and was indifferent to whether Mitt Romney or Barack Obama was elected President would have the decency not to lecture anyone on who is or is not a progressive. But at least, with this Board of Supervisor vote, this literate dumb-ass may have learned the relevance of, yes, going to vote to choose who leads our city or our country. If he is unhappy about the vote taken by the Board, I encourage him, if he is a local resident, to go vote next time.
