[UPDATED] The Eagle Has Landed

Wednesday was a transformative night for the DNC where our leaders made the case for Hillary Clinton. Last night, did our next President close the deal?

It will be 101 days before we know for certain whether or not Hillary Clinton closed the deal last night to America. Thursday evening was capped off by a woman making history and filled with the stories of those she seeks to serve. Those like you and me. Those like Sarah McBride, the first trans person to speak to a political convention.

And in one of the most powerful moments, Khizr Khan, whose son, Army Capt. Humayun Khan, 27, died from a suicide bombing in Baghdad in 2004, said to Donald Trump while holding his personal copy of the Constitution,

“You have sacrificed nothing and no one.” (click here for the full speech)

And while it took 75 minutes for the Donald to make it clear he’s in this for himself …

Hillary Clinton spent 58 minutes making her case for people in our country.

That is when we get to do our part. Last night, Mama Bear sure did hers.

More than the individuals who took stage at the Democratic Convention is the collective message these seven moments communicated to the world last night.

As NBC News pointed out this morning, “Trump is essentially a party of one, who has no one with the gravitas or with the willingness to make a similar claim on his behalf.”

Here are seven of the most powerful moments from yesterday where the Democratic party’s marquee names made not just the case for Hillary Clinton, but for America. The America we all aspire to wake up in every day. But we won’t have the kind of days that allow us the privilege to gather here to talk about what we do without people like these starting conversations this:

President Obama: “never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill, nobody” who is more qualified to be president than Hillary Clinton.”

Michael Bloomberg: “I’m a New Yorker, and I know a con when we see one.”

Retired Admiral John Hutson: “Donald, you’re not fit to polish John McCain’s boots.”

Gabby Giffords: “Speaking is difficult for me, but come January, I want to say these two words: Madam President.”

Vice President Biden: “Hillary gets it.”

Christine Leinonen – Mother of Pulse victim Christopher: “I’m glad common sense gun policy was in place the day Christopher was born, but where was that common sense the day he died?”

*As Media Matters reported, “As CNN and MSNBC aired a moving speech from Christine Leinonen, a mother whose son was killed at the Orlando, FL, massacre at a gay nightclub, during the Democratic National Convention, Fox News completely ignored the appearance, instead holding a panel discussion about inner city poverty and Donald Trump’s appeal to disaffected voters.” All the more reason to grab a tissue and watch this clip in its entirety.

President Obama: “For four years I had a front-row seat to her intelligence and to her judgment. I have confidence, as I leave this stage tonight, that the Democratic Party is in good hands.”

  1. Why didn’t Biden run! We have two absolutely terrible choices. I would rthe rhave voted for Biden, he is just a plagiarist. Hillary is so much worse, I will not vote for the pathological liar.

  2. Really? You certainly watched a different convention than I did. It was like a great American freak show every night!

  3. The dnc has been sad and has all the more disappointed me in recent years. I especially refuse to vote for a murderer and will certainly not be supporting a candidate that thinks it is okay to accept people who are murdering gays and treat women like garbage and force people to accept blame for the murder or others when we had nothing to do with it all the while she refuses to speak about her responsibility of four Americans of whom were mudered in benghazi. Sad to say and I never-ever thought I would, but Trump it is.

    1. A hem. Have you forgotten the GOP platform and the GOP running mate?

What Kahn said to Trump also applies to a self righteous Windbag like you -” You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”

But you have drunk the Kool-Aid

      1. No, you have. Are we forgetting that Khan fought in a war which hillary voted for? Hmmm???? Oh I didn’t think so. You’re too busy romanticizing that she’s only better because she’s supposedly not Trump.

    2. You are as FU*KING as NUTS as asshole trump is. God help us all if he makes it. We would be at war with everyone! You are clueless.

      1. Umm, no. If hillary wins, we will truly be at war. In her career she has voted for every war. The fact that she panders especially hard now when she was completely and consistently counter to her current points, now in decades past, makes you either stupid or brain washed.

  4. Those of you who are too busy on Grindr to go to the polls will pay a heavy, heavy price if this madman creeps into office. For that matter, all minorities (even you self-absorbed millennials) must get out and vote. Fuck all y’all if you can’t be bothered.

    1. Is that how you talk when you are actually trying to convince people of your opinions? Really? Do you ever persuade anyone? Anyone?

  5. What the rest of the world would give to have a leader like your Obama speaking for them whilst so many Americans show him nothing but contempt – this perplexes the rest of us.

    1. Don’t judge us too harshly. We went to the polls in 2008 and 2012 and the majority of us chose this fine man to be our president.
