Porn Moratorium To Be Lifted Friday, Performers to Test More Often

Hear ye, hear ye, porn stars and producers. Friday, September 20, will be the official end date of the current moratorium on the shooting of porn. The first moratorium began with the announcement that two San Francisco-based performers who happened to be a couple off screen, Rod Daily and Cameron Bay, were both HIV positive, though neither of them were likely infected on set.

The California-wide industry halted shooting in order to figure out if anyone else had been infected, and then the moratorium was briefly lifted when it seemed that no one else whom the pair had worked with at Kink.com or elsewhere was HIV+. Then a third, unidentified performer announced they were HIV+ shortly thereafter, and the industry again halted shooting in order reassess testing practices. The story has gone on to make national headlines, and the Free Speech Coalition, the industry trade group, has had its hands full.

In a statement released today, FSC’s Diane Duke announces that all active performers will now be required to get tested every 14 days, instead of once a month, and the group will also be helping to create a “performer education program” to keep performers safe. “While the increased testing will further ensure safer sets, it is important that we remain vigilant,” Duke writes. “Going forward, we need to constantly look to both performers, producers and health care professionals to find ways to improve our protocols.”

This all follows on a scare back in June involving a gay performer on Men.com who tested positive.

Of course, requiring condom usage would be another option, but the straight porn world, and nowadays half of the gay porn world, does not want to go there, because as you all know, bareback sells.

Maybe Wolf Hudson would like to do another dance now?

Update: The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the L.A.-based org that pushed for the condoms-only law in L.A. County, held a press conference yesterday at which a teary Cameron Bay told a story about getting fucked by a bloody penis while on set at Kink. Yikes.

  1. Holy fuck, why is this still happening??? Bareback sells, it’s true, and that makes those who ingest that shit liable. Like all industries, it’s time we ingests of pornography became responsible about what we consume. Fuck man. Not unlike expecting that garment workers have safe conditions of employment. The makers of bareback porn, the person involved in bloody penises should all be arrested and charged for murder. Period. Did we learn nothing from the 70’s? The 80’s? As countless of gay men dropped from A.I.D.S.? What the fuck is wrong with us? Why is A.I.D.S. still around? Why are we playing with people’s lives? Shit man, this whole thing is so infuriating, this should NOT be happening anymore. And I don’t give a shit if my comments come across as serophobic, but what the fuck man? Haven’t we learned anything? Is that what we want? Another wave of A.I.D.S. to just kill us all off? Hell, makes the Right’s job easier.

As for Cameron and others who engage in unsafe sex, come on girl! Where’s your agency? Why play victim? Take this experience and educate others why this has to STOP. Start advocacy around getting makers of porn to be accountable! Come on. Don’t play victim. You played with fire and you got burned. But there’s still time to educate others, to prevent this stuff from happening again. And as for heteros, get a fucking clue. A.I.D.S. just doesn’t affect fags, but you breeders as well. And finally gay-for-payers who are the scum of the earth, guess what? Just because you’re deluding yourself into thinking your straight, doesn’t make you invulnerable to A.I.D.S. and less responsible than gay men in protecting others.

This whole thing makes one just want to seriously quit viewing porn. Perhaps in the end, radical feminists were right about this industry being a nest of serpents.

  2. this stuff scares the hell out of me…i dont even want to fuck anymore..how i never got ii i dunno..i did always use condoms but still me thinks its a hell of a lot easier to catch this shit than we think

  3. “As you all know: bareback sells”!
No to me!If we all refuse bareback videos then the studios should reconsider their barabacking direction.
Maybe Nakedsword can show some consideration for the performers by removing all the bareback movies?
    Let’s dream about healthy performers!

  4. Hmmm so we all remember that one model who had HIV from MEN.com, and If i’m correct I believe Rocco Reed left around the same time? Plus the mystery guy said in the conference he had done both gay and straight…hmmm. Just a thought.

        1. I’m pretty sure the one who got infected wasn’t…or so I’ve heard. Maybe this person is mixing up that Cameron guy from 2011 with Men.com.
