Is Twitter Going to Have to Ban Porn?

You hear that? It’s the sound of 500 porn stars screaming and crying because they might not be able tweet out dick pics any more.

Yes, Twitter has a porn problem. The company is having some major trouble right now in terms of growth and profit, and as Business Insider reports, one continual thorn in their side is the issue of pornographic content and how it doesn’t sit well with advertisers.

Now, Twitter has software that’s supposed to prevent serving ads on pages with adult content, but this hasn’t always worked. On top of that, let’s just look at the numbers here: It’s estimated that at least 10 million Twitter accounts are devoted totally to tweeting pornography (including The Sword’s!), and that 1 out of every 1000 tweets is pornographic.

Also: “Ads on Twitter are targeted based on a user’s interests, location, accounts followed, and so on — not the specific content they are viewing at any one time. That means there is always the chance a paid-for ad can appear next to porn, which can be turned into the kind of headlines that worry advertisers.”

Given that Twitter needs every advertising penny they can find right now, this kind of spells doom for all the porn sharing that’s been rampant since Twitter’s beginnings — and do you even remember what it was like tracking the whereabouts and sexual partners of porn stars before Twitter existed? It was basically impossible unless they wrote in to tell us.

What will Naked Selfie King Duncan Black do without being able to post his morning cumshots?

What will Brent Corrigan’s fans do without being able to see his morning “dick slips”?

What will Trenton Ducati and Ryan Rose do without being able to promote their scenes and get affiliate kick-backs by tweeting to their followers?

Seriously. People are going to freak out.

Update: Also, this is happening a whole lot more on The Sword’s feed, so basically the censorship has already begun.

  1. Yup you kill porn on twitter and watch the volume of users drop and they will find a new medium to show porn pix on.
Personally I don’t hope it happens but then again all things come to an end.

  2. Instagram already does it. Money talks and if porn is hurting their bottom line I suspect they will something similar to what Instagram does. Reading the article, I think the James Foley beheading photos and the immediate photos of the deceased Boston Bombing victims were a watershed moment in regards to inappropriate content and it may very well extend over to porn.

  3. Twitter has ads on there??? I never noticed, but then again I’ve always had the Adblock Plus plugin and I don’t see ads at all on most sites. It’s the best thing ever!

  4. If Twitter thinks they have problems now just wait, their growth will fade like a dick without Viagra if they ban porn. There will be no reason for adults to routinely check Twitter. Seeing the joy on Armond Rizzo’s face in the pics he posts of his ass being penetrated makes those from CNN, the White House, and Lin Manuel Miranda (who endlessly Tweets about Hamilton) tolerable.

    1. Amen! If they ban porn I will go from visiting daily to probably not visiting at all. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot twitter just to try and appease a few advertisers who want to push their morals on everyone else.
