British Mag: “If You Die of AIDS, Can We Have Your Stereo?”

The excitable Brits over at Gay Mafia Watch are so politically huffy that they simply must be lesbians. We’ll try to explain their argument anyway. The gay magazine in question represents the Gay and Lesbian Foundation of working-class Manchester, England. Take a look at their ad below. That’s Freddie Mercury’s face cast against a blood-red background. Its text reads:

Most gay icons are remembered after they’ve passed on. Why not be a gay icon and leave a legacy in your will to the LGF

The Gay Mafia is arguing that not only is it tacky to try to capitalize on the tragically high number of premature AIDS-related deaths among its readers, but also that it’s no good to claim leadership in fighting AIDS while at the same time featuring advertisements that support stuff like ass-breeding porn, bareback hookers and poppers.

We’re not sure where we stand on this issue. After all, we haven’t contacted this foundation, and we’re getting all our information from an anonymous, hyperactive blog. But we do think that if you’re going to accept money from barebacking hookers, then it’s perhaps insensitive to ask for money from readers who could very well die of AIDS after contracting HIV from those very hookers. Plus, Freddie Mercury is cool and all, but if being a gay icon means dying a tragic death from AIDS, then we’ll have to pass. In conclusion, when we die, we’re still leaving all our money to Reese Rideout.

  1. Hello The Sword! Greets from the UK!

Since our investigation was published in December 2008, adverts for poppers have been removed from their magazine although this month (Feb 2009) the editor decided to dedicate his entire editorial to appealing to the gay community to “stop the bitching” – and referred to comments on Facebook where people quite a few angry people had taken it upon themselves to post the article.

We’re of course curious to know if you ever received a reply from the Lesbian and Gay Foundation. Here in England they are one of many corrupt charities that work very hard to put up a wall of silence in response to any public criticism. Did they grace you with a reply that they have denied many others? We are working on a follow up to this story so keep watching our blog over the next few months.

Thank you again for the trackbacks gyuys and the interesting analysis of our article on the Lesbian and Gay Foundation and their blood money scandal. Be assured it is absolutley genuine and their thirst continues.
