Hooker Is the New Gay: A Sex Worker Struggles With Coming Out

The hooker in question is Lantz, a San Franciscan who works in sex worker health care in addition to turning tricks and appearing in the occasional porn.

He started Hooker Boy Health as a blog for and about gay escorts, their health and their relationships.  In his latest entry, he explores the difficulties of being “back in the closet”:

The parallels between being a closeted queer and being a closeted hooker are many. … But coming out as a sex worker has been just as challenging – more so even, given the legal ramifications.

But for me the most challenging part about being “back in the closet” as a HookerBoy is having to deal with the stigma and shame that so many people project on people in sex work. … So how do we cope with all that shame and stigma?

Normally, we’d fuck the pain away. But in the interest of promoting solidarity and collective identity with our hooker friends, we’re reiterating Lantz’s request for tips on dealing with the stigma. You can email him here. Hooker Boy Health may not reach the great, fecal heights of Gay Escort Blog, but it’s recommended reading for all those familiar with finding their money on the dresser and find their meal tickets on Craigslist.
