Comment Of The Day

In response to the L.A. City Council voting to make condoms mandatory in porn…

“Tired Of The Bullshit” writes:

If [condoms] are enforced, [studios] will simply move somewhere else. And while I agree they should be used, I don’t think that it’s a law that is actually enforceable, maybe it is, I’m not a lawyer. But it is a slippery slope, what next will they regulate? Cum eating, piss play? Oral sex without protection? Once that boundary is broken, it is conceivable that it could be used to further restrict and regulate the adult industry by right wing religious zealots, in the hope that they can shut down the industry in this country. I know that sounds pretty far fetched and it is, but it IS possible should our government be taken over by the far right extremist (the recent deadlock in congress over the budget shows just what a FEW can do, imagine if they had a larger support base). They could back their fight with the rationalization it is for the “health of the American public” instead of their moral objections.

  1. wow… such a “controversy”///maybe if u could get laid in real life u wouldnt care what goes in a shady snake oil industry such as the porn industry. who gives a fuck does any of this effect ur life? i know this is a PORN BLOG but the righteousness u spew can only be taken as a joke to anyone with half a brain and one year community college education. bring awareness to something worth while instead of the restriction they put on ur virtual fantasy world and masturbation habits

  2. Regarding AHF, I took their HIV test the other day. It had been a year since the last one, and it was time to test again. Previously, the interviewer would ask all sorts of questions, like how many partners have you had, where they drug users, hiv positive, or prostitutes… I didn’t like these questions but I answered them anyway. The test is free after all. Now when I took the test, you have to fill out a computer form that requires real name, address, social security number. I’ll probably go back again next year, but I seriously doubt that many people will take their now that you have to be added to their “database.”

  3. Drive it underground and it will be 100 percent out of the control of the Nanny State AIDS Healthcare Foundation and LA City Council, with no safeguards whatsoever. AHF is just a different version of Operation Rescue, zealots all. Every time you support “Out of the Closet” thrift stores or Magic Johnson Clinics/Pharmacies you are giving money to these extremists and their radical agenda.

  4. I agree. It’s called adult entertainment after all and not “let me tell you what’s appropiate and what not” entertainment.

Adults should be able to make adult decisions and live with them. Nannies are for children and not for grown ups.

All what the government should do is provide the proper (not that “abstinence” crap or similar religious fanatic stuff) research material for everybody invovled (from porn studios, models over to the viewer or consumer) and then let those decide what to do.

  5. Keep in mind that this has all come about by the wingnut zealots at Aids Healthcare Foundation. They are an absolute disgrace, completely misguided and their actions are doing absolutely nothing that stops HIV transmission yet at the same time are reinforcing the stigma and ignorance people have about HIV or any other STD. As a gay man I would not give one damn cent to AHF and I would encourage other gay men to think long and hard about this whole controversy….it starts with condom “laws” and next thing it will be a complete and total ban on oral sex, anal sex, fetish sex, and lord knows what else.

  6. It’s so true. You give stuff like that an inch and before you know it all sorts of crazy stuff is happening because of the government working off of America’s fears

  7. This not why I pay taxes. What is going to take to get rational minded people into politics? These fringe fanatic’s should all move to Oklahoma and make their own country within a Country. Then we can enjoy ourselves and stop wasteing time fighting every lawyer and law maker who needs to make a name for themself.

  8. Great post. It does raise the question of the real motivation of the religious right in backing such legislation, which is homophobic in nature. And, I have no illusions they’re trying to make the sex industry safer, but are once again trying to tell everyone how to live their lives while at the same time crying for smaller, less intrusive government. It’s OK to have government in our bedrooms. This is the reason people like Rick Santorum (I always giggle at his name; thanks, Dan Savage) are so dangerous and must be stopped.

    1. Tired of the bullshit

Thanks. I should have given more than a cursory reread before I posted! I get a laugh every time I hear “Santorum” also!

    2. At the same time, though, one of the groups that’s been pushing for state involvement in monitoring porn sets — gay AND straight — has been AIDS Healthcare Foundation. They’ve been getting up into CalOSHA’s asses about no-condom porn constituting a hazardous working environment. Bloodborne pathogens and such, so they feel that the standard for risk management should be similar for porn stars to what medical staff have.

Can’t really call AIDS Healthcare foundation the Religious Right, nor CalOSHA.

It’s logically dangerous to conflate whatever ridiculous ideas are going to be implemented in the interest of “employee safety” (remembering that the anti-smoking laws in California were ultimately the product of OSHA intervention) with the ironically anti-conservative interests of social conservatives on the religious right.

Also, it’s very likely that the State of California will invalidate the L.A. move anyway.
