Chi Chi LaRue Needs $40K to Stay In Rehab, Friends Start a GoFundMe

Chi Chi LaRue, as you may remember, was subjected to an intervention by her friends earlier this month and was immediately packed off to Minnesota to the rehab center known as Hazelden. Now, as Sister Roma tells us, she needs money to stay there because it looks like insurance might only cover 30 days?

Everyone seems in agreement that Chi Chi needs more than a month away, in rehab, to overcome her addiction demons, but Hazelden is likely very pricey.

Here’s Roma’s plea:

Friend Kevin Mollin writes,

We are happy to report that in the first 20 days, Chi Chi has fully embraced the program and is taking all of the necessary steps towards living a full sober life. Unfortunately, his family has been informed that after the first month, insurance will no longer cover any of the costs or expenses related to treatment. Without our help, Chi Chi will be forced to leave the facility in 7 days.

Even with all of the progress he has made, Chi Chi is still at the beginning of this journey and requires an additional 60 days in the program to get to the heart of the issue and increase his chances for success. We believe that his life depends on it.

Here’s the GoFundMe link, which just went up an hour ago, and if you want to help Chi Chi’s cause, and help her get well. The goal is $40,000 (I guess that means it $20K a month), which means it’s going to take a village.

  1. I keep reading comments wondering what happened to his fortune. Of course, I don’t know from anything, but I’d say it’s more likely than not that there never was a fortune. For years, Chi Chi LaRue was a director for hire. He was prolific, and that was porn’s heyday, so a paycheck from Falcon was probably pretty sweet. That was when a company like Falcon could charge—and get—$70, $80, $90 and even more for a movie on VHS or CD. Those days are gone, and they’re not coming back. Falcon, Hot House, and Raging Stallion all sold to AEBN, or those names would be but footnotes in the annals of porn now.

In Chi Chi’s case, C1R came along pretty late in the day to begin with. Weird branding (C1R/Rascal…) didn’t show particular business acuity. He bought All Worlds and Catalina’s catalogs, two middling companies. Catalina’s one-time glory days were long behind it. Sure, there’s all that product, but think about how many new online scenes have gone up this week alone. How many people are paying to see generic dated-looking stuff with cheesy music from the 80s and 90s? I’d take the bet that AEBN wouldn’t even pay $40k for the All Worlds and Catalina content.

Add in the fact that Chi Chi was never innovative. Remember when everything was switching to digital (CDs) and he actively campaigned against it. Even worked it into some of his movies. In “Porn Academy,” Blake Harper’s character has a line about how much better VHS is! (To be fair, he wasn’t the only porn producer trying to put off the inevitable; if I owned a warehouse full of soon-to-be obsolete product, I’d be trying to talk people out of CDs, too).

I read in either his autobiography or maybe an interview where he said, “Some days I think if I have to direct another porn movie, I’ll shoot myself in the head.” Not long after, he took up DJing.

Two years ago I was staying at a gay resort when Chi Chi LaRue rolled in with his posse, including Dean Monro and Doug Jeffries. This was not a cheap place. They were there for several days and made three movies, at least one scene filmed at the resort. Perhaps there was some comping and/or bartering going on, but the cost of doing something like that—airfare/accomodations/food/clubs for that many people—to shoot some generic porn scene around swimming pools, it seemed anachronistic and unaware, like, who does that this day and age? All the online sites are doing it a lot cheaper; they’re shooting scenes in the same bedroom set over and over, and the sex is just as hot.

I think he is a product of another time who can’t quite wrap his mind around the fact that his industry imploded and will never be like it was in his heyday; was never one to innovate in the first place; is not a particularly astute businessman; got burned out on directing porn; and that is why there is no money now—and why there probably never was a “fortune.”

I have some experience with a former roommate who was a drug addict who hit rock bottom; it opened my eyes to what addiction is like. I am not unsympathetic. But putting him in Hazelden/Betty Ford when there wasn’t money to pay for it was dumb. These porn people are in a subculture bubble and I guess don’t have a lick of common sense among them.

  2. This is one of the most vile people I have ever had the displeasure of running into, cussed out my friends and I ( fucked up on something I might add) because we had stumbled upon “her private section” filled with her porn friends at some club even she was djing. Karma is a bitch. Learn some humility.

  3. Exactly what allows addicts to be addicts – people rescuing them from the consequences of their behavior.

  4. mister reality

Crass. Also smart. If you don’t ask, how do you know if someone will help pay for your mistakes? Yet for all the humble people with real problems they didn’t bring on themselves (cancer, hereditory hypertension, military injuries etc etc) someone of her success has a lot of balls to ask for this kind of help. Sorry, live (or suffer or thrive!) within your means. It’s tough but that’s part of what a good rehab should be teaching.

  5. Why would i give anything? Is it my fault that she’s an addict? I need money too for some things and i don’t go in public to beg for it.

  6. Are you serious? Pathetic. They say when you have the surgeries and alter your life you may end one addiction but pick up another, guess we know what that is. As far as needing $ you can go fund yourself!

  7. What????? This reminds me of the Joey Stefano biography I read many years ago. About how he could afford a house in California, clothes and parties but ended up so destitute. This is sad. However, he has probably gone through more money than the average person. sad situation. Where did her money go? She’s been doing this for decades, not to mention big budget stuff too.

    1. Up his nose by the sounds of it !

He needs a reality check, fund your own lifestyle and fund your own fuck ups.

  8. Wow it seems that nobody is going to help her out but then again she should have saved money or sell some of her assets.

  9. Here’s what bothers me. Chi Chi is sitting on a mountain of content, including the All Worlds and Catalina brands. So I see no reason why donors at the very least shouldn’t be treated to perks like access to the C1R website. Or free DVD’s. After all, we’re being expected to foot the bill because of someone else’s poor choices when they’re in a position to come up with the funds on their own. Crowdfunding needs to stop. If you need money, watch The Secret. We all have our own bills to worry about.

  10. Time to give back?? Like she did it for free. He’s part of an industry that exploits desperate people, other addicts included. “His life depends on it” but he’s not willing to sell a car or something?

    1. Couldn’t agree with you more. He should be ashamed to ask before selling assets. If he doesn’t have assets to sell get cheaper rehab or find another method. Its all so egocentric it’s disgusting.

    2. Was wondering when someone was going to address the “give back!” The porn sex workers who boast how much they make to take a dick should give back so they would at least continue to have porn jobs!

  11. You know how much she has made in gay porn? Maybe she should downsize her lifestyle to pay for rehab. This is the second time at least. I think it explains why she makes such shitty videos because you can tell no one cares.

  12. It’s arrogant and grandiose to live beyond your means. There are people who make $40K a year who save a lot and people who make millions a year who struggle to make their payments. Get some humility and realize you’re not entitled to anything you can’t afford.

  13. Whoa, I’m shocked, shocked I tell you. I mean she’s been doing this for years, I’d have thought she would be drowning in money by now. I remember years ago late 80s early 90s dropping by the old porn movie theater on my lunch break and “Eddoe and the cruizers” or something like that would be on and to this day I can’t get that damn song off my head. hahaha. Wow, well good luck.

    1. That’s because the gullible, assuming not you, believe the “Gay4Pay” porn sex workers make absurd amounts of money to take a dick in their ass and mouth and go home to feed their wives, kids, and pay the rent or car payment!

      1. Sadly, people tend to loose perspective as addicts loose brain cells! Glad you are operating fully loaded. :)

  14. Ridiculous!…another spoiled, pampered addict. Get real, slow your pride, get humble and go to a rehab you can afford. I will not offer a done. Thank you….12 step programs are free…use them, like the rest of us.

  15. Hazelden???? Bitch, you are not Natalie Cole (who did 6 months there). You could have driven about 3 hours east of LA and done Betty Ford for less money…or cheaper yet through UCLA Medical Center. Having gone through rehab myself 25 years ago, I have to ask….if Chi Chi needs 90 days, just how fucked up was he? Does this mean the stories about him being coked out of his mind at the kickoff party in Miami last year for Drag Stars at Sea were true—where he fell over and took out his DJ set-up? I really do feel for him going through rehab, but damn, man….you pick the program you can afford, because big price tags do not always mean quality treatment….

  16. So you she is a producer of porn, been doing this for years and now since she did not make wise choices with the money we should pay 40K to keep them in rehab. UMMMM NO your bed, your issue, you pay for it. If you can afford this rehab center then maybe she should look at her life and look for a cheaper alternative.

  17. “As we all know, insurance sucks!” While that may be true, this isn’t one of those cases. You should be so lucky that insurance even covered her first month because of something Chi Chi herself brought upon herself. This isn’t something like a car accident that was not her responsibility, she’s been through this before AND she took it upon herself to continue working in an industry that is riddled with addictive behavior and substances.

  18. Honestly, these type details should have been thought of before entering one of the most expensive rehabilitation centers in the country. There are far less expensive facilities available doing great work with people’s addictions and this honestly is so unfair to begin the begging process 20 days into treatment….. I wish Chi Chii Larue well in her recovery.

    1. Josh,

Most insurance plans cover a set number of treatment days (30, 45, etc). The costs of treatment per day is not considered, just the number of days.

      1. As the patient, however, she had to KNOW before hand (research/call his/her insurance provider)how much his/her treatment would be after the insurance coverage has been used that’s how he/she would know HOW MUCH treatment can be afforded that would inform the facility of choice. Adam Ramerez the porn sex worker/therapist would know this!

  19. Whao?! You’re telling me after years in the industry Chi Chi doesn’t have the money?! I feel really really bad now. I guess porn piracy isn’t only affecting the models but the producers themselves. Just seems crazy he doesn’t have that money since he has his own company, the shop, and the toy line…. Wow …. Not sure what to say…
